Another Price Hike

The Barisan Nasional (National Front) government announced yet another price hike. This time, it is the water supply to residents in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya. My guess is that the rakyat (population) has had enough with all the previous price increases and I am extremely sure that the water tariff hike would not go down well with most people. Businesses and industries that are water-intensive in their usage are bound to charge more for their products and services. And it is the people who bears the additional cash needed to get these things. Nothing new here.

I wonder how long would it take for the salaries of the ordinary workers to increase by a mere 10%. Five? Ten? More? Your guess is as good as mine! The government must not delay further in ensuring that the salaries of its people increase in tandem with a similar rise in the various goods. The buying power of ordinary workers is diminishing with each passing day. This is not a good sign for those who barely make ends meet. What more for the poor!

The government calls itself an Islamic state. But it is sad to note that many of its Muslim civil servants see nothing wrong in accepting bribes. Politicians are the biggest culprits. Everybody knows that some of them have no conscience and do not even think twice in cheating the Malaysian people of their hard-earned money. While a small minority of politicians are clean, one finds it hard to explain the millions of ringgit possessed by some of them.

Malaysia can do without dishonest politicians and civil servants who accept bribes without even feeling an ounce of guilt.
