The Putrajaya Highway

Malaysia's very own "King of Tolls", Datuk Seri Samy Vellu, has announced that the cabinet would decide whether the government is to bear the cost of constructing the RM900 million (US$243 million) highway connecting Kuala Lumpur with Putrajaya, the nation's administrative capital, next Wednesday (December 6, 2006), in the weekly cabinet meeting. My personal view is that Pak Lah's administration should be responsible for undertaking this important project. Why? This is because failure to do so would again place an additional unwanted burden on the long-suffering rakyat (people) of this blessed country. Everyone knows that despite continuing hikes on almost all essential goods, products and services, the measly take-home wages of the average hard-working Malaysian citizen has not shown any significant increase for quite some time. And all civil servants would surely remember the black day when Pak Lah decided not to grant a wage increase to them recently. And yet another highway that charges a toll to motorists would not be very popular to all.
