Ramadhan 2010
The holy month of Ramadhan is here again. Muslims all over the world rejoice in the coming of this holy month where they fast from dawn to dusk to fulfill one of the five Islamic Pillars. I am very thankful that I have lived another year longer to meet with Ramadhan. Fasting has been scientifically proven to be beneficial to one's health. In this month, we will meet with "Lailatul-Qadr", a night equivalent to a thousand months, meaning that a night's prayers or anything done to bring oneself towards God during this night will be equivalent to doing it for a thousand months. I hope to meet with this night as nobody can be absolutely sure when this night will occur. A good guide is that "Lailatul-Qadr" will happen on the last ten days of Ramadhan and during odd nights. During the holy month of Ramadhan, Muslims are encouraged to perform the "Solat Tarawih" for good reasons, to read the Holy Quran, to give to the needy, to give "zakat" or alms and to do anything and everything to get closer to God. It is said that during Ramdhan, Heaven's gate are opened at seven entrances and you can have your entire sins wiped out if you fast steadfastly and in a proper manner or "adab". To all Muslims all over the world, do take this opportunity to increase your faith or "iman" and may we meet with the night of "Lailatul-Qadr" (a Night of a Thousand Months).
