Stretching The Ringgit To The Max
In Kuala Lumpur, for a mere RM1.00 (about US$0.27), you can have a nice meal of roti canai (a type of Malaysian bread made from oiled dough) with its dhal bean curry dip plus some sambal (cooked chili) and a glass of iced water. Take this amount elsewhere and what food are you able to purchase? In a recent study involving several cities worldwide, Malaysia came out first in terms of the cheapest food available on planet earth. How lucky Malaysians are! And with just RM8.18 (about US$2.21), I was able to purchase a whole processed chicken, one kilogram of wheat flour, two servings of taugeh (bean sprouts), ten pieces of lime fruit, and a piece of carrot and tomato each. Normally, I do spend much more. However, I am still waiting for my delayed pay cheque to arrive. Upon arrival, it will take another three days before the proceeds are credited into my bank account. And this means the end of next week!
