Bye! Bye! Canaries?

With The Canaries losing 0-2 at home to Reading today, the permutations had dwindled down to only one for them to stay up in the English Championship soccer League. Norwich City MUST beat Charlton Athletic away on the last day of the season (Sunday, May 3rd) and hope that Barnsley lose away to Plymouth Argyle. A draw or a win for Barnsley would mean the Canaries are doomed to League One soccer in 2009/2010. I really do not know what went wrong for them this season. But, if they do the impropable and remain in the Championship, the Canaries must analyse their entire season and see what did not go right and get a remedy. If they do get relegated, I hope for a speedy promotion. Good luck, Norwich City!

Don't Cry For Me, Norwich City F.C.

Saturday, 25th April 2009's penultimate matches will see whether the Canaries start their Monday home match at Carrow Road against high-flying Reading trailing 5 points behind their nearest rivals, Barnsley. That's if Barnsley beat Wolves, the Championship leaders that will join Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in the 2009/2010 season. Barnsley then play Plymouth Argyle away on the last day of the season on Sunday, May 3rd 2009. There are too many permutations of results resulting from the other games affecting relegation. But if Barnsley lose both their last 2 games, the Canaries will be safe provided they collect 4 points againt either Reading and/or Charlton. In Teamtalk.com, Bryan Gunn, the Canaries manager admits that his side's survival is "in the hand of God now" ahead of the weekend's fixture list. Norwich City is my first love. This team was great in the 70s and 80s, and went all the way to finish 3rd in the old First Division at one stage. They had won the League Cup (now Carling Cup) twice and one of the very few English sides to have beaten the German giants, Bayern Munich, away at their turf in Munich. It will be a sad day in my life come 3rd May 2009, if the Canaries do go down to League One (the old Division Three). You can do it! You must do it! You will survive the drop! Please don't cry for me, Norwich City F.C.
