My Daughter, The School Prefect

Earlier this year, my first-former daughter, Soleha, was short-listed to become a school prefect. At first, I was shocked as while I was at secondary school, prefects were only short-listed while they were in the fourth form. Well, when she was finally officially appointed as a school prefect at her school at SMK Taman Maluri, it was a proud moment indeed for my wife and I. She was installed during her school's assembly on Monday, 12th April, 2010. Before that, she had to go through several assignments, tests, interviews and even a prefects' camp; all which she passed with flying colours. My only hope is that she will learn to juggle the demands of being a school prefect and that of a normal class-going student. I have also been a prefect. But, that was during my primary school days. Well, it is not every student that gets the chance to become a prefect. Congratulations, Soleha and be both an excellent prefect and outstanding student. Papa and mama are proud of you!

Canaries Seal Promotion!

Michael Nelson's first-half header ensured Norwich City clinched automatic promotion from League One as they beat Charlton 1-0 at The Valley. Nelson scored the winner at the ground where the Canaries were relegated last year, but the visiting side had goalkeeper Fraser Forster to thank for a string of superb second-half saves. Charlton midfielder Nicky Bailey had the best chances for the home side, who are at least guaranteed a place in the play-offs after Colchester's loss at Hartlepool. And Addicks striker Nicky Forster was twice kept out by his namesake between the posts. Both sides got off to a nervy start - indicative of what was at stake for both clubs - but Simon Lappin's inch-perfect corner was met by Nelson's head to cue wild celebrations from the visiting fans. Deon Burton could have equalised on the hour, but he was also denied by a wonderful Forster save. The visitors packed men behind the ball for the final 20 minutes and held on enough before venturing onto the pitch at full-time to celebrate with the packed away end.
